Axe Hewing

In woodworking, hewing is the process of squaring up wooden beams for timber framing using primarily an axe. It is an ancient method, and before the advent of the industrial-era type of sawmills. Our mantels are hand hewn using the same tools that were used 100 years ago. Hand hewing was typically done with two axes: a scoring axe and a broad axe.

Please Note: Mantels and shelves can be up to ¼” short on any given measurement due to the nature of hand hewing.

Finish Options

Finish Options: Barnwood, Dark Chocolate, Rustic Walnut, Smoked Oak and Weathered Siding
The color may vary slightly depending on the wood itself, since no two pieces of lumber have exactly the same qualities. Also, please note that when viewing any color samples online there can be variations in the appearance of colors depending on the screen type. We try to make the representations as accurate as possible, but slight variation is to be expected.
